Mainstream media is designed to promote consumption, rather than inform the world’s struggling populations. No surprise, then, that the people who are in the news and make the news are chosen to make the whole thing look glossy and sexy. Poor people are portrayed as victims, rich people as heroes and dead people as the collateral cost of modern living. There is an added bonus: nobody is going to seek out their opinions or do more than display their bodies. Where does this vision of hell on earth come from? It diverts our rightful anger, justifies the unspeakable, stifles our aspirations for life.
Those who live by the sword shall die by the sword.
Hold the front page, there is an age-old story coming in. You’ll never believe it… We’re doomed to believe in conflict. But somewhere out there is a flicker of hope.
